Some say the rule with fashion is "Three times and it's a trend." A trend that appears to be in full bloom is rosette accented pieces. The judges on Project Runway laughed when almost all of Angela's design had sweet little rosettes. A few years later and roses rule the runways of Thakoon, Rodarte and Marchesa. Oscar season showed Anne Hathaway and Jessica Alba in rose adorned gowns. Now the sweet detail shows up on dresses from Jenny N and tops from A Common Thread.
John Mayer has been linked to many women - and it seems that all of his current and former leading ladies have in common is, well, him. They come from different industries, have very different ages, and dress in completely different styles. Maybe Mayer is looking for something different each time. Jess is the southern beauty, with exaggerated features and style. Cam flaunts her athletic figure in body conscious basics and bright colors. Jenn is a natural woman in neutral colors, and classic cuts.
It's been four years, and in just two days the girls of Sex and the City (and their men) will be back. For many girls (of all ages) this is an event that they've been looking forward to for a while.
I watched the series finale on the floor of my personal Carrie's dorm room, and many times over we've debated which SATC girl we most closely resembled in style, attitude and personality.
Carrie was the trendsetter, never shy about spending the month's rent on a new pair of shoes, she easily paired Manolos with a $4 find. Charlotte was preppy and proper, mixing eyelet, bows, lots of pink. Miranda's style took a while to come into it's own - but she graduated from stiff business suits, to sleek shifts and finally post-Brady skinny jeans! Samantha loved her body and loved her clothes on or off of it - she always stood out and took risks in prints, bright colors and oversized jewelery.
Which girl are you?
Stripes have long been either your friend or your enemy. Either you don't know how to wear them, vertical or horizontal, big or small, and don't even start in on the colors.... Summer is seeing a resurgence of stripes, from the standard, like Aude's Racerback Tank, to the subtle Splendid's Shadow Stripe Tank to the barely there like Splendid's Micro Stripe Tee.
I think stripes are looking fresh for the season, and hints at the always classic nautical trend.
With this in mind, stripes still aren't for everyone... And I wonder...
Celebrities are forever our trendsetters, and it looks like Hollywood's Hottest bodies are speeding up to get dressed in yellow. The bright and sunny color is perfect for summer because it seems to make the wearer absolutely glow, and there is no denying the happy vibes it gives off.
The hot trend from a few years ago was skinny jeans. When celebrities first started wearing them, they were major head turners. Not satisfied to keep them as a fall staple with boots and stilletos, Hollywood It Girls are wearing them into summer's hottest months.
A few weeks back we saw David, Victoria, Romeo, Brooklyn and Cruz taking in the sights and delights of Disney Land. Not an entirely surprising event until we noticed what Vic was wearing. It appeared as though she traded in her trademark minis and skinnys for a pair of David's jeans. What gives? This week Heidi Klum, no stranger to the tight and revealing, went shopping in NYC in a pair of jeans that might be baggy on Seal.
Perhaps the ladies are revisiting the 90's, maybe they are redefining the wide leg look...

It seems that every other day a story pops up announcing a star venturing into the design world. Many of the actresses/models/singers turned designers say that they will use their own closets as inspiration - which is good to know, since it is their strong style that has made them style icons. However, you sometimes have to wonder, what qualifies them as a designer? Do they know patterns, are they going to textile mills?
Jessica often wears her own shoes and bags, Victoria (and all of her friends) wear the denim from DVB, and Heidi and Lauren both proudly wear their lines.
By the way, did you know that top selling shoe in the United States in 2007 was a Jessica Simpson shoe!!!
Every style icon adheres to a specific look. Marilyn had the red lips, and platinum blonde hair, Bridget Bardot had the bouffant, and of course Jackie O. had the synonymous sunglasses.
Today's fashion icons make appearances with a consistent look and style and if you take notice they are reminiscent of particular decades in our fashion history.
Consider the following: Christina wears very 50's tight platinum blonde pin curls, Victoria struts in wiggle dresses, oversized sunglasses and slim shifts, Nicole has toned down her lifestyle and gotten into harmony with a very 70's style of bold prints, light wash jeans, and delicate braids, Fergie is the consumate performer and take cues from the hottest 80's hair bands, in tight t-shirts, and liquid leggigns, Scarlett tests the waters with the 90's layered, grunge look.
Our stores are starting to get the beginning of their fall deliveries - which we are all very excited about. Fall fashion means cashmere, gorgeous boots, dark denim skinny boots, brilliantly hued scarves and colors that are only found in nature. Don't get me wrong I love summer as much as the next girl, but the freshness and richness of Fall is always exciting, if for no other reason that buying new clothes!
